1 Description It occurs as a colourless, volatile liquid.

(A) Infrared absorption spectrophotometry.
(B) The vapour introduced into a Bunsen flame produces a green colour and gives rise to noxious vapours having a characteristic odour.
(C) The characteristic odour of phenyl isocyanide is produced.
3 Solubility It is miscible with ethanol, with ether, with most organic solvent and with fatty and volatile oils; slightly soluble in water.
4 Weight per ml Between 1.474 g to 1.478 g.
5 Boiling range Not more than 5.0% v/v distils below 60° and the remainder distils between 60° and 62°.
6 Acidity or alkalinity The colour produced is similar to that produced on adding 0.1 ml of litmus solution to 5 ml of freshly boiled and cooled water.
7 Chlorides The solution is clear.
8 Free chlorine No blue colour is produced.
9 Aldehyde The pale yellow colour is produced.
10 Foreign chlorine compounds No opalescence is produced.
11 Related substances The total content of all impurities is not more than 1.0% v/v.
12 Non-volatile matter Not more than 0.004% w/v.

MOLFORM™ CHL is packed in HDPE drum or IBC packing having bar-coded label.

SHELF LIFE, STORAGE AND PACKING

The shelf life is 3 years. Preserve in well-closed containers.
